East Lake Golf Club dates to 1904, has been the permanent home of the TOUR Championship since 2005, and just underwent its most significant renovation in decades — a 2023-24 Andrew Green restoration, unveiled at the 2024 TOUR Championship, that reshaped greens, bunkering, and strategic angles across the property along with a regrassing to a heat-tolerant Bermuda strain.
What stats matter this week: SG: Approach is the model's top factor at 17%, with SG: Off the Tee and SG: Putting close behind at 14% and 13%. The 2023-24 restoration means Course History and Course Experience are down-weighted to 3% each this week — about half their typical combined allocation — since most of the field's East Lake reps happened on a course that no longer exists in this form. 2026 also removes the staggered FedEx Cup start entirely, so historical East Lake scores aren't directly comparable to whatever wins this week. #2 — SG: Off the Tee (14% weight)
7,440 yards demands strong tee-to-green ball-striking just to reach par-4 and par-5 greens in position — a par-4-heavy layout with only two par 5s on the card.
Driving Accuracy Fit — only 4%
Widened fairways from the 2023-24 restoration reduce the accuracy premium relative to older East Lake setups. The market's instinct to reward "tidy" East Lake specialists is stale evidence — the course simply doesn't punish a wayward tee shot the way it used to, as long as the approach that follows finds the green.

Who has been here before.
East Lake has produced a run of approach-first champions — Schauffele in 2017, Cantlay in 2021, Scheffler in 2024 — all ranked near the top of the field in strokes gained on approach that week. Course History carries just 3% weight in the current model, down from a typical 5-6% combined, since the 2023-24 restoration makes pre-2023 East Lake history less representative of the course the field plays now.
Rory McIlroy — the clearest illustration of the discount
McIlroy is East Lake's only three-time winner (2016, 2019, 2022), but the model reads him as a FADE OUTRIGHT ONLY this week at -5.93% edge. His profile is solid across the board — nothing broken — but three East Lake titles were all won on a course that no longer exists in its 2023-24 form. The model weighs his current-season approach and putting numbers instead of the résumé, and this week that reads as a fade rather than a pedigree play.
